The Straits Methodology: Building Mastery
At Straits, we distinguish between understanding a technique and mastering it. While you can ‘learn’ a shot in minutes, it takes thousands of repetitions to execute it instinctively in a game. Because true improvement is measured in performance rather than attendance, our methodology is built on continuous training cycles. Most athletes should expect to spend several training cycles within a single level to "harden" their mechanics and meet our mastery benchmarks. We don’t train until you "know" the shot - we train until your muscle memory makes the shot automatic in a real-game situation.
Focus on Fundamentals and Technique
We focus on the skills that matter most for your specific stage of development. By placing a heavy emphasis on the fundamentals, we ensure you develop good habits early. This approach doesn't just help you improve now; it ensures you build a solid foundation that prevents common plateaus and sets you up for success in the long term.
High-Volume Reps: The Only Shortcut
Consistency is the only real shortcut in pickleball. To reach the next level, simply understanding a skill isn’t enough; you need thousands of quality repetitions to make it permanent. Our training cycles are designed to provide the volume you need to make core skills like drops and resets instinctual. We don't practice until we get it right; we practice until we can’t get it wrong.
the right program for your skill level
To get better, you need to train in an environment that constantly challenges you. We group our lessons according to your skill level. This allows our coaches to use a lesson plan designed for your skill level, creating an optimal environment for fast and effective growth.

Package Enrolment
When you sign up for our lessons, you'll be enrolling in a package of either 8 or 12 weeks. This booking secures your spot for that specific class time - for example, Beginner Development every Monday at 7 PM - for the next 4 or 8 weeks. When your package finishes, we'll reach out to see if you would like to renew your spot. This ensures you have the first opportunity to continue before we open the class up to new students.
We require package registration for a few important reasons:
- Consistency: Our structured packages ensure you can consistently attend class and get the practice you need to get the most out of our program.
- Guaranteed Slots: Your registration in a package automatically reserves a spot for you each week, ensuring that you can attend consistently without worrying about finding an open slot.
- Wet Weather Guarantee: If a class is canceled due to bad weather, your spot for the following week is automatically saved. You won't have to worry about missing a lesson or finding an available makeup class.

If a Technique or Gameplay lesson is called off due to wet weather, our policy is as follows:
If less than 45 minutes of the class has passed, the class credit will not be used. The syllabus for the next session will remain the same, and we'll repeat the lesson the following week.
If 45 minutes or more of the class has passed, the class will be charged in full. The syllabus will progress as scheduled for the next session.
-
If you need to miss a class, you have two flexible options, provided you notify us at least 72 hours in advance.
Make-up Class: We can help you find an open spot for the same class type in another session either the week before, the same week, or the week after your missed class. This is subject to space in those sessions.
Pause Enrolment: If you need an extended break for travel or other reasons, you can pause your enrolment for one week in a 4 lesson package, or for two weeks in a 8 lesson package for up to one week per pause.
If you cancel less than 72 hours before your scheduled class, you'll need to provide a medical certificate to be eligible for a make-up class or to pause your enrolment. Without a medical certificate, the class will be considered attended, and you'll be charged for it.

There is a massive gap between understanding a shot and mastering it under pressure. Knowing how to hit a 3rd shot drop takes 10 minutes; being able to execute it 7/10 times during a fast-paced match takes thousands of repetitions. At Straits, we don’t practice until you "get it right", we train until you "can’t get it wrong." Repeating a topic is not a sign of lack of progress; it is the only way to build the muscle memory required for improvement.
-
Progression is based on performance, not attendance. Unlike a school syllabus with a fixed graduation date, our squads are built on Mastery Benchmarks. Some athletes may hit these benchmarks in one 8-week cycle, while others may spend several cycles mastering their skills. Most students should expect to spend at least 2-3 training cycles in a single tier to truly master the mechanics required to survive the increased pace and intensity of the next level.
-
No. We follow a Dynamic Training Framework that focuses on the most critical skills for your specific stage of development. Rather than checking off a list, we revisit and hone crucial topics until they are mastered under pressure. Because our coaches adapt each session to your squad's real-time performance, we do not provide weekly previews. You aren’t here to "finish" a curriculum; you’re here to improve your game to reach the next level.
